SAN FRANCISCO – Motic, the global optics manufacturer and digital pathology solutions provider, announced today a new collaboration with the American Society for Clinical Pathology (ASCP) to deploy remote consultation systems in Sub-Saharan Africa. The project will enable partner hospitals to leverage the skills and expertise of the ASCP’s Partners for Cancer Diagnosis and Treatment in Africa coalition, bringing affordable, quality diagnostic care to these regions.
Cancer is an emerging health crisis in Africa, where almost 850,000 new cases are diagnosed every year. According to Bio Ventures for Global Health, 60% more Africans die from cancer than from malaria. Additionally, most cases are diagnosed in the later stages of the disease, which contributes to poorer outcomes. This is due in large part to insufficient pathologic review in the region. Advancing detection capabilities and pathology expertise, through international consultation, is a pivotal first step in developing sustainable solutions to fight cancer on the continent.
